Cumulative Blog Reflection

As of now i have completed my 25 hours of physical work on my capstone project. To complete all aspects of my capstone project i used critical thinking, communiation, collaboration, and creativity in many different ways. I had to use critical thinking when it came to actually having to plan the amount of time i spent on the physical project as well as the research paper. Along with critical thinking i had to use communication and collaborate with my mentor and the people involved with helping me complete my project. Planning hours with my mentor involves alot of scheduling because of both of our busy schedules. I also had to communicate with other people like the ones i interviewed as a primary source for my paper and those who i had to interact  with while preforming my job shadowing hours. 

From my capstone project i gained personal, social, and intellectual experiences that i believe will help me throughout my life. Personally i think i have become a more open person to everything and more patient overall because throughout the project it took time to complete alot of aspects of it. Socially i have become a more outgoing person in situations that used to make me feel uncomfortable. For example in more work related areas i used to be shy now i am more calm and outspoken. Intellectually i have learned many things relating to hair and hair care. Overall my experience was great.

Although the experiences i had were great i had to go through challenges to complete it. My first challenge was a personal challenge which was getting over my fear of speaking with my mentor. My mentor herself did not give me fear it was the fact that it was a new situation that made me feel uncomfortable. Secondly was the challenges of busy schedules and planning everything out. Lastly it was a challenge overall to do the project but in the end i got it done and i feel like i have learned alot from this experience and what i gained was definately more than anything.

Yesterday on may 4th i went into my mentors job to complete my last five hours of job shadowing. It was a really laid back day because there was not too many clients and there was alot of wait time between the time the clients came but when they did arrive it was very intresting. Considering its a salon it was the usual. I got to gossip and talk to the clients again which alwys makes me feel more an more comfortable an it was sad to say bye at the end of my hours cause i wouldnt be coming back to see them again. Everyone was so nice throughout the whole processs. That day i watched as the clients were very happy with there new looks and also i saw a regular client that was there the first im i went in. She seemed happy to see me again and itwas nice to see the regulars.

Yesterday i went in again to complete another 5 hours of job shadowing. It was pretty similar to all my other days i complete hours. All this job shadowing is making me very intrested in the job field because it is a type of job where you have the chance to create relationships with people depending on your quality of work. People who like the work that you do will want to come back and get the same service they did the past time and with you you start building loyal customers. On this day i went in and observed the same type of thing but with different people. I got to interact with people as they were also intrested in the work i was doing there. They were curious about my senior project and about the tasks regarding my project. I learned about the coloring station and the mixes of colors to make another color hair dye. It was very intresting. Overall it was a good simple day at the salon. I plan on completeing my last 5 hours on one day this week.

Yesterday i complete another five hours for my capstone project. I arrived and as always i had a challenge of finding parking in san francisco is always hard. I went in and observed as clients came in and got there hair done in many different ways. The place is underconstruction so it was pretty busy in there today. People coming in and out, differnt clients at differnt times. It was nice watching my mentor Lana helping the client and advising her so that the client would be happy with her new hairstyle when she left the mercer street salon.

On April 4th i completed 5 more hours with my mentor. I basically did the same thing as the day before i observed and took pictures of clients and the process of whatever reason it was that the client was in there for that day. The amount of people that came in that day was similar to the day before and every client seemed to have a good experience at the salon. It was nice to observe the connection that the clients and my mentor had as they talked about their days and lives. It seemed to make their experience at the salon more enjoyable and comfortable.

On April 4th i did my first 5 hours with my mentor. I went in to the salon in san francisco which to begin with was a stuggle to find parking considering it was in the city but after that i went in and got to meet the staff at the mercer salon. We waited for the clients to come for a bit but i observed the enviorment my mentor worked in. I job shadowed her for five hours that day. Throughout the day she had clients come in for different things. The first lady came in for highlights for her hair and i saw how she applied the dye to her hair and the whole process. Others came in for hair cuts and some other froe highlights as well. The day overall was fairly normal for my mentor not too but but not easy considering it was a weekday. The salon however remained busy all day.

Update

As of today im currently waiting on the day im going to begin my hours because i am doing them in big chunks of days. Over spring break i will take a few days out of there and finish wrapping up my hours. Im hoping to complete my hours over within a period of 4 or 5 days

Mentor Status

I have a mentor! After changing my capstone project topic, it was alot easier for me to find a career im intrested in. The mentor that I have now is more accessible and easier to contact. I am now doing my physical project on hairdressing. Considering that our research paper is due next week i am going to start logging in my hours starting february. Also taking my school and cheer schedule into accounr i am only going to be able to log my hours on saturday which is perfect because my mentor works all saturdays!

Mentor Update

Currently the situation with me finding a mentor is that I have not found one. I visited a few different pediatrician offices to see if they could help me out but all of them did not get back to me. I am looking into contacted a family clinic that is located a few streets down from my house and seeing if they could offer me some assistance in finding myself a mentor pediatric nurse. It is a clinic for all of South San Francisco and it looks to be pretty promising. It has been quite difficult to find time to complete all of this considering i have cheer all week and by the time i get home offices almost always seem to be closed, but im hoping to get all of  this done by this weekend so i can get started on completing my twenty-five hours of work on my physical project.

Fiscal Cliff Response

The Fiscal Cliff is basically tax cuts and spending cut that were going to be imposed by the government. Democrats highly want to find a way to close the fiscal cliff deal. They believe in raising taxes on people who make more than $250,000 a year as well as more liberal beliefs compared to those of the republicans. Republicans opinion on the fiscal cliff is a much more conservative view. For example they believe that there should be a government shutdown to make sure that the fiscal is safe, as well as no tax raises for the upper class.
The way I conducted my search started off by first trying to research the basic overview of what te fiscal cliff was.
